Alternate Solutions Proving Valuable
As part of the Department of Defence Estate Works Program, RAAF Base Wagga received funding for several projects across the base.
One of which was the upgrade of the 400 series accommodation buildings and auditorium. These works included reroofing 10 x two storey accommodation buildings with 48 beds in each, removal and replacement of 500 windows, repainting and installing new blinds.
Further to these works in the upgrade of Building 442, which includes an internal fitout, consisting of 3 x new offices, new toilet facilities, 2 x kitchenettes, new mechanical systems throughout.
As part of the re-roofing works to the 10 x two storey accommodation buildings, PSG Holdings were required to remove and replace the existing trusses, whilst keeping the ceilings intact.
Upon initial inspection it was evident this was not possible due to the current truss design supporting the existing ceilings. As such, PSG Holdings proposed an alternate design to utilise the existing trusses with some extra structural support to achieve the same outcome.
By doing so, PSG Holdings saved the client a considerable amount of money, cut down the programme of works and resulted in a better overall solution for the project.
