Assisting the Government’s premier department change the way it works
PSG Holdings (PSG) were engaged as project and construction managers to deliver flexible and adaptive ‘Work Your Way’ office accommodation across two sites at 1 National Circuit Barton and 16 Bowes Place Phillip.
The project was initiated as a pilot to test activity-based environments to allow PM&C staff the freedom to think and collaborate the way they want. The build consisted of a complete demolition of both sites and construction of flexible and adaptive built forms.
Sound attenuated Quiet Booths and Focus Pods were constructed using doubled glazed partition systems with acoustic ceiling and wall panel systems. Large collaborative meeting spaces incorporating glass whiteboards, video conferencing, functional furniture, lighting, operable curtain systems, and supplementary air conditioning systems were built.
A large kitchen and break-out space (termed ‘Garage’) included fixed banquet seating, soft furnishings, joinery incorporating whitegoods and appliances, a disable compliant sink and boiled/chilled water unit, and bench seating.
Open plan workstations provided full electric sit to stand adjustability, adjustable dual monitor arms, and wireless technology for internal and external network connectivity. All lighting installed was programmed to user requirements and to reduce energy usage.
Detail finishes included suspended feature ceilings, timber wall cladding, indigenous artwork and film to glazed partitions, carpet tiles, MDF slotted acoustic bulkheads, timber veneer joinery and wall panels, and sunscreen roller blinds.
A number of loose furniture elements were procured and installed to test a variety of working and collaborating options. These included share pods, media tables, booth seating, lounges and powered lockers.
The project was delivered in a tight timeframe and to a high quality of finish. Post occupancy services provided by PSG included the engagement of PM&C staff and collection of survey information to incorporate in the function and design of future ‘Work Your Way’ projects.
