PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The expansion project added a 480-bed maximum security facility adjacent to the existing 853-bed centre. This included demolitions, expansion of existing infrastructure, rebuilt and refurbishments with associated civil and landscaping works. The project involved expanding the prison gatehouse and adjusting secure perimeter fencing, expanding the operational kitchen, refurbishing the visitor center, constructing a new Education building, vocational training (TAFE) building with a canteen, and rebuilding the administration offices and Master Control Room. The medical unit, intake and processing unit, and a female transition unit were completely rebuilt. Additionally, a secure walkway connecting the existing center and the new maximum security site was constructed. Notably, the existing kitchen remained operational throughout the expansion of the existing kitchen. The Junee Correctional Centre Upgrade stands out as the first Justice Infrastructure and Assets project in NSW to implement pre-fabricated maximum security cells. Achieving a rapid installation pace, with 15-20 modules installed daily, the accommodation building was 50% complete in just four days, showcasing efficiency and innovation.
